Nutritionist for Cancer Patients
I'm Jenny, a cancer nutritionist specialised in providing evidence based food and lifestyle support, tailored to your individual needs throughout your cancer journey.
Receiving a cancer diagnosis can be terrifying, and for many, is a hugely unsettling time. I know this only too well because at age 25 it happened to me. After months of numerous tests, what I thought was something innocent turned out to be a rare soft tissue sarcoma.
As a fellow cancer warrior, I know it can turn your world upside down in an instant, and your mind can be consumed by 'what ifs'. Researching your condition can become anxiety inducing and thoughts of your diagnosis take over your mind. You may feel scared, angry, lost, lonely, depressed and everything in between.
After my treatment, I had a decade of follow ups, so I know the dread felt when another Doctor's appointment is looming. My body took several months to recover from treatment, however the mental scars of a diagnosis can take much longer to heal. Worrying about potential recurrence can play on your mind.
My own experience with cancer and the yearly checkups was what eventually led me to study nutrition. I wanted to know how I could reduce my risk of going through this again. After thoroughly researching nutrition and making changes to my own diet, I felt the natural progression was to train as a Nutritional Therapist, so I enrolled at the prestigious College of Naturopathic Medicine and never looked back! My three years of training was thoroughly inspiring and fuelled my desire to help people even further. I thought I knew about the power of nutrition before my studies, but I’d barely scratched the surface.
I knew I wanted to be a Cancer Nutritionist
After qualifying, I discovered Integrative oncology and embarked on 6 months of specialist training in a systems approach to cancer with Dr Nina Fuller-Shavel. After that I set up My Cancer Nutritionist to use my knowledge and expertise to help others going through the most challenging time in their life. I’ve since completed 12 months of training in the metabolic approach to cancer, together with extensive blood chemistry interpretation courses to best support my clients. My practice is based in Wallington, Surrey, UK, however I support clients from further afield as all consultations are done online.
